.

Dear Parents, Guardians, Carers and Students,

I hope you are having a wonderful and restful weekend and enjoying this lovely Autumn day.

On Friday 20th March, some significant decisions were made in relation to the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) on schools, which I felt important to relay to you as quickly as possible for your family planning.

ADDITIONAL PUPIL-FREE DAYS
Additional Pupil Free Days will occur this Friday 27th March (last day of Term 1) and Tuesday April 14th (first day of Term 2).
This is for all Victorian schools.

Staff will be working on these days but students are not required at school. We ask that all families prepare to have their children home.

These days are designed to allow schools time to prepare for the possibility of closures, resulting in remote/home learning. For this to be effective please ensure we have your current email address, please contact the office if it needs to be updated.

We understand the difficulties this may cause our families, however in these unprecedented times we must follow department directives to ensure the health and safety of all. We are here for all of you and together, in a strong partnership, we will get through this successfully.
NAPLAN
The Education Ministers met yesterday to discuss the evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and the implications for schools. They decided that NAPLAN testing will not proceed for 2020. This decision was made in recognition of the disruption caused to schools by coronavirus (COVID-19). This has created additional work as teachers prepare for the possibility that schools will need to move to more flexible learning programs, including remote learning.

STUDENT ABSENCES DURING THE PANDEMIC BUT BEFORE REMOTE LEARNING
Some parents of Bright P-12 College have decided to self-isolate and not send their children to school as a pre-cautionary measure. The College can support the continuity of learning for those students in the following ways while the school is operational: Primary students –email Ms Kelli Jacobsen (Assistant Principal Primary for support) and Secondary students – use the available learning materials currently on Compass.
Any students who choose to self-isolate will not be disadvantaged through attendance requirements for VCE, VCAL or general school attendance.

While the College is fully operational it is not possible for our staff to provide a complete off-site learning program (if and when we do go to a Remote Learning our whole focus will be on providing off-site learning). I ask you not to contact individual teachers at this stage as they are very busy and will be unable to answer you concerns.

I appreciate your support and understanding of our situation at present, however if you do have concerns for your child’s learning while at home please contact the College.

STAY AT HOME IF FEELING UNWELL
If your child is feeling unwell please keep them at home until they are better. Children who present unwell during school hours will be removed from the class to the Front Office for parents to collect. Please provide a notice on Compass or contact the Front Office if you are keeping your child at home

Warm regards

Jean Olley
