News and Profiles

Dear Parents, Guardians, Carers and Students

As you would have probably heard through the media yesterday, Victorian schools are to close today for students at 3.30pm for an early start to the Term 1 holidays.

I was waiting until I had an email from DET confirming the news stories before I wrote to you, which came through last night.

'This afternoon the Victorian Government announced additional steps to combat the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), including bringing forward the school holidays in Victoria to commence from Tuesday 24 March.'

Therefore today is the last day for students this term.

Yesterday the Premier of Victoria The Hon Dan Andrews MP released a statement that included the following:

All measures to be implemented by Victoria are consistent with the health advice provided by the Victorian Chief Health Officer. The decision whether to re-open schools after the Term 1 holidays will likewise be determined following advice from the Chief Health Officer. I will have more to say on these measures tomorrow morning.

Once, I have more information for you regarding the re-opening of schools at the beginning of next term I will inform you as soon as possible.

With that in mind it would be a good idea for students to take home all essential learning materials from their classrooms or lockers today  in preparation for the possibility we are engaging a Remote Leaning model for term 2.

For Year 12 students all SACs have been postponed until term 2. Your teachers will keep you updated of any modifications to assessments, if they are needed. Please do not stress, but do take the holidays as an opportunity to further engage with the content of your subjects and a chance to develop deep understanding.

I appreciate everyone's patience over the last week as the COVID-19 situation has impacted upon the daily operations of the College and assure you the College staff are making every effort to prepare for a Remote Teaching model, if needed. They will now have the next four days to further develop their teaching resources and knowledge of off-site learning.

I would ask that parents, guardians and carers have provided up to date addresses to the College and have access to Compass. Communication will be even more essential if we move to a Remote Teaching model to keeping the learning partnership of student, teacher and parent alive and thriving.

I will be providing updates to you over the next four days and the holidays as needed.

Wishing you a safe holiday period in these difficult and unusual times.

I am aware that many of you will be doing it tough over the coming months and this is after a difficult summer break. Bright P-12 College will be exploring the opportunities we may have to provide support to our community during these times over the coming weeks.

Please contact me if you have any concerns.

Warm regards
Jean Olley
