Dear Parents, Guardians, Carers and Students,
The weeks are passing quickly this term with endings coming around all too soon. This year those endings are all the harder due to the year we have had. In many ways it feels as though we are only just beginning as we came back to onsite learning. We are doing our very best to provide students with a sense of achievement
The Year 12 Exams are progressing very well for our students and I am very pleased with the effort and study I am seeing and hearing from the Exam supervisors our students are making when sitting an exam. This year the results for the external exams and final study scores will be delayed due to the impact of the events of the year. The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) students will receive their results on Wednesday 30 December 2020. We are currently looking at what support will be needed by our students on this day and will keep you informed. I would encourage all students sitting exams in the coming weeks to make every effort to do the very best you can and give your full effort to the task.
PUPIL FREE DAY
On Friday December 4th we have a pupil free day to allow staff to correct work and write reports. My apologies if this date has not come to your attention as you plan as a family.
We also have the Year 12 Graduation on that day and more information on that will go out to Year 12 students in the coming days.
STATEWIDE TRANSITION DAY
Primary - Kelli Jacobsen Assistant Principal Primary
On Tuesday the 8th of December we will be welcoming our Preps for 2021 to Bright P12 College with a small group transition program. They will return again on Thursday the 10th.
A key focus of our work in Term 4 has been to look for ways to ensure end-of-year transitions occur as successfully as possible. We have commenced hand-over meetings between teachers and units. But to ensure we give our students the chance to connect with their new teacher and classmates, we have made the decision that all students will be transitioning for a day with their 2021 teacher and class on the Statewide Transition Day. Normally we do not announce class allocations until the last week of the term, but we feel this will give the students some time to process and settle into their new class environment with their new teacher. Students will participate in “Getting to Know You” activities throughout the day to establish a positive relationship with their 2021 classroom teacher and fellow class members. Students will be told of their 2021 classes in the morning at 9am. More information will come out in the next parent update.
Year 6 into 7 - Scott Burton Assistant Principal Secondary
Tuesday 8th December we will welcome our Year 6 into Year 7 for 2021. Students from Bright P-12 College will follow a secondary timetable and have an opportunity to meet teachers, practice changing classrooms and how to manage a timetable. Unfortunately, covid restrictions still prevent us from combining with our feeder schools; Wandiligong, Harrietville and Porepunkah. I am meeting with staff and students from these schools this week and plans are underway to welcome each school onsite on Wednesday 9th December for a school tour and chance to meet some of their teachers. If current Covid restrictions are eased this may change. I will be in contact with parents and Primary schools early next week.
Warm regards
Jean Olley
Principal
