Today (Wednesday, 2nd of October), all the Aussie students and their host partners travelled by train to Rosenheim. First up was the official business of visiting the Landratsamt (kind of like the regional office for education, as well as the regional shire offices - we don't really have a similar government building like this in Australia). We met the person in charge, who oversees the staffing, equipment and facilities at our sister school, the Wirtschaftsschule Alpenland. We had the opportunity to ask some questions about how it is all structured here in the region of Rosenheim and he happily answered them.
Some fun facts were:
- His office is responsible for 23 schools (all high schools).
- In total the schools have 20,000 students.
- Last year they spent 100,000,000€ on their school.
- He as been working in his job for 24 years and he loves his job helping all people, especially the younger generation.
Then he invited us to have some traditional German sausages and Bretzels.
Afterwards we did a scavenger hunt around the city of Rosenheim. We were in groups of 4 and had an hour to complete it. It was nice to explore the city and I personally was very glad that my host partner (who was in my group) knew her way around Rosenheim, otherwise I would have been lost!!!
