Language and Exchange Program
At Bright P-12 College, our language program is offered from Prep right through to VCE. Primary students begin learning how to comprehend, speak, read and write Japanese in Prep. From Year 5, German is introduced into the curriculum and students learn both languages up until Year 6.
Students continue with their chosen language of German or Japanese from Year 7 to Year 9. From Year 10, students can choose to continue with their chosen language as an elective subject.
As part of our VCE program, Aboriginal Languages Victoria (ALV) is available to study, in addition to Japanese or German. As part of ALV, students undertake the study of the reclamation of the Dhudhuroa language, they also compare Dhudhuroa to the language and culture of Murrinh-Patha Language group from the Thamarrurr region of the Northern Territory, as an extension of our school’s relationship with the Thamarrurr Youth Indigenous Corporation.
Language Immersion / Exchange Programs / Sister-School Connections
Secondary students studying Japanese or German have the opportunity to visit our sister-schools in Gamagori (Japan) and Bad Aibling (Germany) for an immersion experience. Term-long reciprocal exchange opportunities to Bad Aibling for students in Year 9 or 10 are also offered. Bright P-12 College also hosts visits from our sister-schools. These programs promote engagement and connection between the College and community groups, as well as offering families and students opportunities to engage with our visitors whilst providing first-hand intercultural learning experiences.
