At Bright P–12 College, student wellbeing is central to our school culture and community. We believe students learn best when they feel safe, supported and connected. Our wellbeing approach focuses on building positive relationships, creating inclusive environments and ensuring all students feel valued and ready to learn.
We use a tiered approach to supporting student mental health and wellbeing, allowing us to provide different levels of support based on student needs.
Tier 1 – Whole School Support
Tier 1 strategies focus on promoting wellbeing for all students and creating a positive and inclusive school environment. These whole-school initiatives help build connection, resilience and a strong sense of belonging. Programs and opportunities include celebration days, our wellbeing dog Frankie, Brekky Club, access to the Wellbeing Room, and a variety of lunchtime clubs that encourage social connection and student interests. Students also participate in programs such as Zones of Regulation, Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships, and Digital Safety lessons. We place a strong emphasis on Student Voice and Agency, encouraging students to share their ideas and contribute to school life. Together, these initiatives support a welcoming and supportive environment where all students can thrive.
Tier 2 – Targeted Support
Some students may benefit from additional support to strengthen their wellbeing and engagement. Tier 2 strategies provide targeted assistance through small group sessions, regular student check-ins, and supportive classroom adjustments. Some students may also participate in “soft starts” to the school day to help them transition into learning more smoothly. These supports allow us to respond early and provide students with the skills and confidence they need to succeed.
Tier 3 – Individualised Support
For students requiring more intensive support, Tier 3 strategies include individual wellbeing support from our school counsellors. We also work closely with families to connect students with appropriate external services when required, ensuring a collaborative and holistic approach to student wellbeing.
Our Leading Teacher for Primary Wellbeing, Clementine Brasher, leads this work across the primary school. Her role focuses on maximising student wellbeing, engagement and readiness to learn through a whole-school, tiered approach aligned with the Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS) framework.
